5 December 2013, a new community multimedia center has been created in the Uchkun village, Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan.
UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty within the joint EU-UN Project Operationalizing Good Governance for Social Justice in Kyrgyzstan supported the initiative of the Uchkun village self-governance body.
Conference in Kyrgyzstan: Сommunity media to promote good governance
18-19 February 2014 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty in cooperation with National Commission for UNESCO in the Kyrgyz Republic and UN agencies: UNDP, UN Women, UNICEF organized national conference Community media and their role in promoting good governance for social justice. The conference is devoted to three worldwide days: Radio Day (13 February), Day of Social Justice (20 February) and Mother Language Day (21 February).
Five mobile community media centers launched in Kyrgyzstan
Near a hundred items are being published by community media centers (CMC) in Kyrgyzstan in 2013. New centers opened in Naryn, Issyk-Kul, Osh, Batken and Jalal-Abad provinces. These centers use a digital technology of creating and publishing information and news reports. Two centers in Chui province are functional from 2012.
Kyrgyzstan: 129 rural correspondents attended trainings on legal aspects of journalists
During November 2013, there were conducted 8 trainings for rural correspondents in remote regions of Kyrgyzstan. Trainings were organized by “Media Workers Trade Union of the Kyrgyz Republic” with the support of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, under the framework of the project EU and UN “Operationalizing good governance for social justice in Kygyzstan”. 129 young journalists – representatives of Mobile and community multimedia centers in Issyk-Kul, Chui, Jalal- Abad, Osh, Batken, Naryn regions attended these trainings.
Legal guarantees of access to information in rural Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyz NGO “Precedent” Partners Group with the support of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office is organizing workshops in Osh and Bishkek in November 2013 on the legal aspects of access to information. The training is supported by the EU and UN project Operationalizing good governance for social justice in Kygyzstan.
Community multimedia centers open in Chui region
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – Community multimedia centers have opened in Djal-Orok and Kara-Suu villages of Chuy region. Both centers received equipment and training with the support of the joint project of European Union and United Nations on promoting good governance in Kyrgyzstan.
Community Media in Kyrgyzstan Key to Achieving Social Justice
Community media embodies a grassroots approach to local development. Giving citizens a voice and the opportunity to seek solutions to their problems is a core component of social justice.
The power of community media was clearly evident in Bishkek on 20 February, as 100 participants from throughout the country gathered to mark the International Day of Social Justice in Kyrgyzstan. The conference was organized within the EU-UN joint programme “Operationalizing Good Governance for Social Justice in Kyrgyzstan.“
